Hateful depictions of the Prophet

I think what this proves is that you can't control information, especially with the internet giving a voice to every person on earth. You simply can't silence everyone from saying what they want, as hateful as the words emerging might be. For anyone familiar with internet chat rooms, trolling (the act of agitating anonymous people, simply because you can) explains a lot of the people who are jumping on the bandwagon of trying to irritate the Muslims. So what's the proper (and effective) response to insulting garbage like the content of Jyllands-Posten as well as this very offensive website ?

Economic sanctions is one route: if they can't respect our beliefs, they can't have our business. But that's a short-term, somewhat tactical response. And I won't even give any time to idiots who suggest violence is the answer. The answer is, chickens, to develop our own message, our own response really, put it out there and then ignoring the issue completely, from that point onwards. The flame of prejudice doesn't feed on apathy and with time, the true value of every statement made is exposed. Also, where are our own cartoonists, lampooning issues we don't appreciate? In a lot of ways, I feel the frustration of the Muslim masses lies in their inability to count on our own intellectuals waging spirited defenses of the things that mean a lot to us.

Not that we have the patience for any of that. Arabs don't have the strongest belief in either the power of winning intellectual arguments or the future. Which sort of sums up the mess we're all in today.
