Sweet secular charity

It really bothers me that charities seem to be aligned to different religions. The implication there is that Muslim money will go to Muslim kids, Christian money goes to Christian kids and Jewish money goes to Jewish kids. It makes you wonder, if religions are the bastion of compassion and love for all mankind that they claim to be, why discriminate based on divine affiliation? Is it conceivable that one aid group would only target areas where the sufferers are of the same religious persuasion, even though other people might need it more? The possibilities are pretty distasteful.

Not only that, but it leads one to wonder about a quid pro quo mindset that promises food, medicine and aid to non-believers, in return for embracing the religion that happened to reach the sufferers first. If that isn't a sinister use of power, I don't know what is.

I'll concede. The fact that aid is given to people who need it, regardless of how or why, is a good thing. But the notion of charity, the unconditional aid to those who are less fortunate, is quickly disappearing and being replaced by a cynical movement aimed at swelling up the ranks. It really pisses me off that even charity can't be free of ideological bias. It's just fucking bullshit.

My ex-roommate once hesitated buying water for some construction workers because they weren't Muslim. She wanted her "good deed" to go towards Muslims. Apparently non-Muslims don't get thirsty...
