Mothers as furniture

In the old days, when you wanted to take some baby pictures, you kind of faced a bit of a problem. Prop the baby on the chair and he/ she are likely to take a nasty spill and break their head. Tying them to said chair was also a non-starter because, even back then, there were laws against that kind of thing.

The solution? The baby would sit on the mother's lap while the old lady posed as a chair! Apparently, this was standard practice and not seen as weird or eerie in any way.
