I have to say, while I wasn't the biggest U2 fan in the world, I always appreciated their music and recognized they were outstanding songwriters and musicians. The problem with a band like U2 is that the legend and the hype will always overshadow the talent.
That said, when I went to their last concert, here in New York, I was totally moved by their rendition of 'Sunday Bloody Sunday'. This was a song that I always thought was over-rated (though I understood the sentiments and the political undertones, as a melody, it just never worked for me. Until that Friday. The version they sang came across as both rousing and haunting and they nailed it pitch perfect. I could feel it in the pit of my stomach and it stayed with me until the next day. Which is what you want.
I tip my hat to them, for that.
