"I want to poop, back and forth"
If you haven't seen the movie "Me and you and everyone we know", go and watch it today. That's where the quote in the title is from. I haven't seen a more sensitive treatment of people via a movie in a looooong time. The actions and motives of the adult characters are no more informed than those of the children, and just as natural. The humanity of the characters is fiercely displayed and cherished but everything is conveyed in the quietest, most under-stated manner possible. And it's done without a hint of self-consciousness. It's an amazing achievement for first time director, Miranda July, who also stars alongside the vastly underrated John Hawkes.
There's no real plot in much the same way as an abstract painting has no clear visual. But, like the best abstract art, it communicates what it won't come out and say, in moods and tones and feelings. It's delicate and gentle and fascinating and outrageous and it's never, ever cliched. Not once. Not the theme, not the scope, not the dialogue, nothing. It's a breath of fresh movie air at a time when even independant film is threatening to become a parody of itself.
Watch it, peons.
