Anti-French Bias


Have you seen the commercial for the clog-remover, Liqui-Plumr? It starts off with a French couple, having a romantic dinner by the ocean. They're talking, in French of course, when all of a sudden, a piece of disgusting crap lands on their table. It takes a second for the (rather comely) young woman to register what it is. She puts her finger under her nose and lets out a stifled scream, while the man stands up and yells "Garcon! Qu-est que c'est?", clearly outraged. The scene then cuts to an American couple standing over a sink, with the Liquid-Plumr draining fluid, pleased that the clog has been lifted. The voiceover booms at this point: "Liquid-Plumber. Clears clogs far, far away". End of commercial.

Now my problem with this commercial is simple: the writers of this commercial clearly thought it would be funny to visualize the crap that clogs up your sink, flying through the air and landing miles away. Which is fair. But the fact that they decided to punish the French people, is clearly a sign of an anti-French sentiment, that's been simmering in this country since the whole Freedom Fries debacle. It just made me laugh that this was the joke they went to. Plus, I wanted to let them know that I'm onto them.

This is the shit I think of at one in the morning.

Take comfort...last week the White House reversed its decision to name their fries "Freedom Fries". They changed everything back to French. Bush likes the frenchies again.
