LOST is LAME

Does anyone else think it's lame that a lot of the new shows-Lost, Jericho,Invasion and so forth-all play off the same emotion, namely paranoia? It's reflective of the state of affairs in the US, that so much mainstream "entertainment" plays off people's uneasiness. What's amusing is that paranoia and fear are emotions that the rest of the world has had plenty of time to get used to, over hundreds of years. All these shows play off the pent-up anxiety the US feels about 9/11.

The rest of the world, on the other hand, has had thousands of events like 9/11 and worse. It just seems to me that America isn't sure how to deal with an emotion like fear, the kind of unknown, uncertain fear that truly defines the word. At least Gen X doesn't and you can chalk that up to the relative prosperity of the 80s and 90s. Fear is frightening, but the way it's being exploited by the media (as well as the government) is actually kind of disturbing.
