Three Lions Down

I have a feeling the England Football team will get annhilated tomorrow night, in Croatia. They've been playing poorly, they lack guile to the point of naivete and they're managed by an absolute idiot, who doesn't have a winning track record and has never won anything in the game.

England are insanely strong in some departments (strikers, central midfielders, central defenders) and unbearably bad in others (wingers, fullbacks and goalkeeper). Basically, anything that requires invention and imagination, they simply don't have. By all accounts, Croatia should beat them 2-0 but, knowing how lucky a manager Second-Choice Steve is, they'll probably scrape through with a draw.

If only Ryan Giggs had played for England all those years ago, the Three Lions would have won any of the last three World Cups.

I never really quite figured how a country with such a fantastic first league, studded with some of the hardest working players in the game could so consistently stink on the world stage. I guess your analysis is right but I doubt they'll fall flat this early in the race. They'll probably struggle all the way to the finals then crash to strong Europena team and head home and say, they were just better we have to focus on the Workd Cup now!

England are crap, embarrassingly so, and the reason why the Premier League is so fantastic is cos it's stuffed with superb foreign players.
Every World Cup it's the same bloody thing, we are subjected to 'our boys' saying 'it's our year, this year's there's a real hunger' before luck takes them to the quarter finals where they are resoundingly thrashed and then come home and blame their manager, or the pitch.
I saw a hilarious Giggs headline -"Giggs: Why I'm Proud to be Black." Could have fooled me!

Jester: yeah, they always do. They only fail when it REALLY mattters, which suggests a team with a weak mental make-up.

Anonymous: check out United's record over the past two years with Giggs vs. without. He is a difference-maker. Plus, you're right, he isn't what he used to be, but when we used to be, he was a sight to behold.

Amnesiac: they are crap but I disagree with you about foreign players being the reason the PL is this hot. The crowds love footy which players from other countries always marvel at and (and I know this is a cliche) the grit and never-say-die attitude is really unparalleled.
