Anti-semitic humor

If Sacha Baron Cohen wasn't Jewish, would everyone be up in arms about Borat? See, If he were non-Jewish and made the EXACT same movie, would it be any less funny or would the points about bigotry be any less salient? Fuck no! So why the hypocrisy yo?

Discuss please.

I'm sure people would be more up in arms if he were not Jewish. Humour which pokes fun at a particular group (be it race or religion) is always considered more acceptable when it comes from a member of the group in question. Hypocritical? Well, in the case of the 'n word' being used by black Americans, I question how use of the word negatively impacts the group as a whole. In the case of Borat's jokes, I'm sure there are people within the Jewish community that would argue his humour is harmful to the overall perception of the Jewish community.

i agree with cairogal, the jokes would've been much funnier if they came from a Kazakhstani or a muslim. i don't think there are many muslims in america that think his jokes are funny and i think there are some christians and jews out there that think he's being racist.

Even if he weren't Jewish, we would move on to the next important question: Is he or isn't he really a bigot?...

There is no escaping this I think.

I love Jerry Seinfeld and he is Jewish he is the best comedian ever!

This is not about being Jewish. I agree with the comments above.

Now that the guy who played Kramer on Seinfeld went off the deep end in his recent standup, I suppose the heat is off Borat.
