"Jarhead" gets two kings out of three

But I'm going to see it anyway. It's based on the best-selling book by Anthony Swofford, a veteran of the first Gulf War. It's supposed to be a terrific, electrifying read though I'd never heard of it.
The reviews for the movie haven't been glowing and I think part of that has to do with a film that covered the first Gulf War with pitch perfect excellence: "Three Kings". It's a movie which I consider to be a masterpiece. That said, Jarhead is the first movie I've been excited about in a long time.
The CNN review of "Jarhead" had this to say, in conclusion:
"As a study of one man's war experience, "Jarhead" has its moments. But if you want a great movie about the Gulf War, rent David O. Russell's 'Three Kings'."
