El-Rumi
Arabic and Persian poetry translates surprisingly well and has a striking resonance, even today. I'm not implying I translated this, by the way: I copied it off the poetry series ads on the N train.
Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and rightdoing,
There is a field. I'll meet you there.
When the soul lies down in that grass,
The world is too full to talk about.
Ideas, language,
Even the phrase "each other";
Makes little sense to me.
Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and rightdoing,
There is a field. I'll meet you there.
When the soul lies down in that grass,
The world is too full to talk about.
Ideas, language,
Even the phrase "each other";
Makes little sense to me.

I love how his poetry applies both to human and spiritual or divine love. Its original purpose of worship transcends into a magnificent art form suited to the tastes of an epicure. It's absolutely inspirational.
Saw this on the train as well and fell in love with it.
it's really good shit. i have the book at home.
I visited his (Melvana Rumi) sarcophagus in Konya, Turkey when I was studying abroad. Great town! If you ever get a chance, go visit it...and nice blog!
