Less is Maher

The problem with Bill Maher is that he can't decide if he's a comedian or a serious commentator. That would be fine if he didn't have the annoying habit of switching to the comedy, whenever a serious point is about to be made. It really kills his show.

He also needs to lose the celebrity guest angle. I mean, I respect articulate celebrities like D.L. Hughley and Bradley Whitford, but some don't even know anything (Ian McShane), some only know about one thing (Chris Rock can only talk about racism) and others don't know when to shut the fuck up and not hijack the stage (I'm talking to you, Robin Williams, you annoying Tourette-syndrome motherfucker). I know he loves the glamour and glitz of Hollywood, but there's only room for one funny man on your panel, and you're it.

On the plus side, and if you're looking for a serious political discusson, check out George Stephanopolous's show, specifically the round table discussion, which features such luminaries as Farid Zakaria, Sam Donaldson and the very impressively informed George Will. I only wish it were longer.

THANK YOU. My God someone who finally shares my point of view that a) Bill Maher is no longer the shit and b) Robin Williams is the most annoying mother fucker to ever hog a stage. Hats off.
